Jasser's first foray onto the Tundra took place as a member of an expeditionary force struck down by an enormous snowstorm soon after leaving their Settlement. Survivors don't last long in snowstorms, and yet Jasser somehow managed to pathfind his way to an abandoned shelter without which the team would have certainly been found frozen the next morning. Yet their troubles had only just begun. The shelter was immediately attacked by a horde of ravenous animals, and with many fellow explorers wounded, Jasser had to fend off the beasts mostly alone with a gun and hunting knife. In all this Jasser never showed a hint of anxiety, so much so that teammates nicknamed the taciturn explorer "Fortress Jasser".

Jasser is well aware that his refusal to join a faction could make life difficult, and would probably align himself with the Dawn Alliance rather than Phaethon if forced.

In the Dawn Alliance's favor is its humanitarian concern for the fate of survivors in this post-Chill world, a sympathetic perspective Jasser feels is somewhat over-emphasized as wellbeing should not, in his view, be humanity's top priority. In this regard, Phaethon's iron commitment to restoring the old world comes much nearer Jasser's own goals. But he cannot ignore the atrocities committed at Phaethon's hands, sins which—among other things—have cost them Jasser's potential loyalty.

Jasser has been a voracious reader of all kinds of encyclopedias and arcane volumes since childhood, in which he benefited greatly from growing up in a town featuring probably the largest surviving library in the world at that time, and in which he spent many long evenings. Jasser's broad depth of knowledge has given him a unique appreciation for the way life in the old world used to be, for the stories and the songs mostly lost to time. The memory of earth's past exerts a special hold over Jasser's imagination. It is there that Jasser's never-ending quest for a scientific solution to the world's woes must be located: surely there is a way to end the march of ice. Surely.
